Hello Boppers!

Here is the latest scoop on our upcoming Dance Happenings:

1. ProKids Fundraiser, on Saturday, November 7, from  6-8  p.m.

2. PNC Festival of Lights. Cincinnati Zoo, Wednesday, November 25 (Members Preview Night), 6 p.m.

RSVP:  We hope to have approximately 50 to 80 participants in each of the above events.  Some of you have already let us know if you are able to participate, and we appreciate your prompt responses.  If you responded as a “maybe,” please confirm your participation once you know for sure if you can make the dates and rehearsals for the respective events.  We would like for you to please respond to this email invitation (reply to your point person, either Connie, Maureen, Linda, or Renee) by Wednesday, October 14, to let us know if you can join us.  If we receive more responses than the event venues can accommodate, we will take the first 80 people who have indicated a definite “yes.”

Learning and reviewing the dance:  The Dance Happenings are fun, community events, and we want to help anyone who is interested in participating.  Please contact us personally if you have a scheduling issue, and we will try our best to accommodate you so that you can still be in the dance. The rehearsal times and places are listed below.

In addition to the scheduled rehearsals, if you are new and want to begin to learn the dance, you can contact someone who has already learned the dance (we can assist you with this), and ask them to help you.  We also have a couple of other teaching rehearsals (one at NKU, and another TBD) that are not yet scheduled, and we will let you know the times once we have those worked out.

Another suggestion (either for learning the dance or for a review) is to go to the YouTube site  (www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMCFH1L1LwM), and bop along to the video.

ProKids Fundraiser

Saturday, November 7, 2009

This event will be held at the Mayerson Jewish Community Center, 8485 Ridge Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45236.  We have been asked to do the dance around 7:30 or 8 p.m.  We would like all dancers to arrive at the JCC around 6 p.m. for a couple of run-throughs of the dance in the space.  The event begins at 7, during which time we will have a place to hang out, eat (the ProKids organizers have graciously offered to provide us with food), and wait for our turn to perform.

Rehearsal:  There will be a rehearsal for all (new as well as returning) participants at the JCC on Saturday, October 24, from 2:30 until 3:30.

New Dancers:  We will hold a rehearsal at 1:00 Saturday, October 24, just before the group rehearsal, in order to teach the dance to newcomers.  The new dancers will then join the group rehearsal at 2:30. This rehearsal is important so that we can place you in the dance with the large group.  There will also be an extra rehearsal for new dancers, to review what you learned on the 24th, at the JCC at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31st

PNC Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo

Wednesday, November 25

The Dance Happening has been invited to the Zoo’s Member Preview night.  We will dance at the new entrance area of the Zoo. There will be lots of other fun events taking place, and we will dance after the lighting of the International Tree.  Our performance time will be approximately 6:30 p.m.  We will probably do the dance again about an hour later in the same venue.  We will add a couple of fun holiday touches to the dance, which will be easy for everyone to learn.  The Zoo has graciously offered to provide entrance tickets to all of our participants.

As part of the fun, we will ask our dancers to wear anything “animal,” such as hats with ears or antlers, animal prints, animal scarves or mittens, etc.

There will also be an opportunity to donate new hats, scarves, mittens, and/or gloves to a shelter or school.  More details will be forthcoming on this aspect of the event.

Rehearsal:  The rehearsal for this event will be Sunday, November 22, at 5 p.m., at the entrance area of the Zoo (again, we will make arrangements for everyone to get in).  This rehearsal will last for approximately one hour.  This will be an important rehearsal for spacing the dance, as well as for learning the holiday additions to the dance.  If you cannot make this rehearsal, but still would like to dance at the Festival of Lights, please contact your point person (see above).

New Dancers: New dancers who wish to join in this event are encouraged to attend the October 24 and/or Oct. 31 rehearsal in the afternoon at the JCC.  In addition, there will be a teaching rehearsal on Sunday, November 15, at the Erickson Academy of Irish Dance, (673 Wilmer Avenue - Suite D, 45226, across from Lunken Airport).  This rehearsal will begin at 5:30 p.m., and end around 7 p.m.

Please feel free to email your questions to your point person, and we will respond as soon as we can.

We look forward to dancing with you soon!
